Leicester City v Huddersfield Town - Match Preview

Chris Wood is likely make his Leicester City debut as the Foxes welcome Huddersfield Town for the first game of 2013.

The New Zealand international striker, 21, signed from West Bromwich Albion earlier this week for £1.25m and the transfer will be made official once the January transfer window opens tomorrow should his registration be ratified by the Football League and the FA.

Wood could partner David Nugent up front after he scored the winner in Saturday's game at Burnley, Leicester's first goal in three games and first win since the beginning of December.

Defender Zak Whitbread and striker Jamie Vardy are both doubts after they missed the trip to Turf Moor, but Manchester United loanee Michael Keane is available. Sean St Ledger remains sidelined with a hamstring problem.

Huddersfield manager and former City defender Simon Grayson welcomes back and is also without two strikers as they look to stop their run of nine games without a win.

Another ex Fox James Vaughan returns after missing several games with a thigh strain, while Alan Lee also comes back after serving a three-match ban. Both are in contention to start the game as Jermaine Beckford is ineligible to face his parent club, while Simon Church has returned to Reading.

Right back Jack Hunt is a doubt after he limped off in the 0-0 draw against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, while fellow full back Calum Woods could also be missing after the groin injury picked up on Boxing Day.

Winger Danny Ward also picked up an injury on Boxing Day so remains doubtful, while midfielder Oscar Gobern remains missing after ankle surgery.

Leicester won the reverse fixture in October as two stunning goals from Anthony Knockaert proved the difference in a 2-0 win, a result which saw Leicester move into second place.

Leicester City assistant manager Craig Shakespeare: "Huddersfield away was one of our best away performances of the season, but we have to make sure we replicate that this time around.

"There are no easy games in the Championship, as soon as you think there are it can bite you in the backside. We know Huddersfield are coming tomorrow to steal the points away from us.

"Hopefully, with the home supporters behind us, we can produce another good performance and make a good start to the year."

Huddersfield manager Simon Grayson: "We may not have won in five, but we have only been beaten once in our last five games.

"We keep picking up points and we need to keep chipping away until we get that victory.

"The players worked harder today (Saturday) and showed a lot of commitment and I am sure that when we start winning games we will show more quality."

Match Odds:

Leicester (4/9) Draw (16/5) Huddersfield (13/2)

Leicester to win 2-0 (6/1) 0-0 draw (14/1) Huddersfield to win 2-1 (18/1)

Anthony Knockaert to score anytime (7/2) Alan Lee to score first (10/1)

Glenfield United Weekly Review: 16/12/12

Three Glenfield United games are featured this weekend, with most teams playing their last matches of 2012.

Under 14 G league leaders Glenfield United 2010 U14 were in action at Gynsill Lane, as they hosted sixth placed Whetstone Juniors 2012. Both sides are familiar with each other having met just last week, with the game ending 3-3.

After a change of pitch fifteen minutes before kick off, the game got underway with United making a great start with two goals ten minutes in.

Firstly a low cross from the left across the penalty area was turned into his own net by Whetstones' number two after being put under pressure.

A second came two minutes later in more spectacular fashion. Midfielder Alex Pullen received the ball before firing a long range right footed strike into the far corner.

Glenfield remained comfortable with their two goal lead for most of the first half. That was until five minutes before the break as Whetstone grabbed a goal back.

Hesitation in the Glenfield backline was capitalised on by Whetstone's number 11 striker who prodded the ball into the net from a few yards out.

The second half was played at a high tempo, with Glenfield looking to retain their two goal lead, while Whetstone pushed for an equaliser.

And the scores were nearly level ten minutes from time. A corner from the left wasn't fully cleared and a Whetstone player's shot went just wide.

The visitors kept searching for a late leveller but it didn't come. The result leaves Glenfield top of the table going into 2013, three points clear of second placed Harborough Town who do have three games in hand.

The lunchtime kick off at Gynsill Lane saw Glenfield United Lions U9 take on Barlestone St Giles.

It was the Lions who took the lead, and just like the Under 14 2010 game after them, came courtesy of an own goal as a corner from the right went in off Barlestone's number five.

The visitors scored a goal at the right end five minutes later though, number 12 with a shot from inside the area which went into the corner of the net to make it 1-1.

United kept the pressure on though, and were rewarded as they retook the lead. An error in the defence after good closing down from the Glenfield strikers saw the ball break to Harry Laundon who fired into the roof of the net.

The hosts looked set to go ahead at half time, but with the last kick of the half Barlestone equalised for the second time. Number eight was put through one on one and shot low into the bottom corner.

And for the first time in the game Barlestone took the lead five minutes after the break. The Glenfield 'keeper parried a shot which was followed up by number three who finished from close range.

The Lions kept pushing for a deserved equaliser and went close on several occasions, but a third goal didn't come as the game finished 2-3. The result leaves Glenfield seventh with five points from seven games.

The first game of the day was at Ellis Park, as Glenfield United U12 9v9 welcomed Lutterworth Town, a place above United in the league standings.

The deadlock was broken two minutes prior to half time. A Glenfield corner from the right was headed clear, only as far as left back Sam Greenhill who unleashed a left foot strike from the edge of the area which went through a crowd of bodies and in for only his second ever Glenfield United goal.

But just as many minutes after the interval and the scores were level. A ball over the top fell to number nine who chipped the ball over the Glenfield 'keeper and in.

Glenfield were then let off the hook after 50 minutes as Lutterworth had three chances to score. Number 11 ran through one-on-one but saw his shot saved before the rebound was cleared off the line. A third shot then hit the bar before the ball was cleared and the score remained at one each.

Both sides kept pushing for a winner, and Glenfield looked more likely to get it as the game went on, but the game ended as a draw. United remain in fifth place and they play Borough Alliance at Ellis Park next weekend.

Glenfield United results: Glenfield United Lions U9 2-3 Barlestone St Giles U9, Glenfield United Tigers U9 1-5 Shepshed Dynamo U9, Desford Youth U11 9v9 5-0 Glenfield United U11 9v9, Glenfield United U12 9v9 1-1 Lutterworth Town U12 9v9, Glenfield United U14 1-6 Blaby & Whetstone BC FC U14, Asfordby Amateurs U14 4-3 Glenfield United 2005 U14, Glenfield United 2010 U14 2-1 Whetstone Juniors 2012 U14, Thurlaston Magpies JFC U18 P-P Glenfield United U18.

Glenfield United Weekly Review: 09/12/12

After two weeks of postponements due to heavy rain and then ground frost, football returned to Gynsill Lane and Ellis Park as five teams resumed their seasons.

Glenfield United Under 14's were in County Cup action as they hosted second division Barwell, with a place in the quarter finals up for grabs.

United had beaten Broughton Astley, Broughton Villa and Leicester Nirvana to reach the last 16, while Barwell had beaten Khalsa FC and Whetstone to get this far.

It was a great start for United as they took the lead inside ten minutes. After good work from midfielder Ashley Kirk down the left, the ball fell to striker Shivang Odedra before hitting a 20 yard effort which went over the Barwell 'keeper and in.

The conditions were playing their part in the game, with the ball often holding up or gathering pace in the strong winds, and it may have had an affecy on Barwell's equaliser after half an hour.

A freekick from more than 25 yards out was struck by the visitors' number 15 which went into the top left corner and it looked like that the teams would be going in at half time at all square.

That didn't prove to be the case though as Glenfield retook the lead three minutes later. This time, Odedra turned provider as he showed good skill on the right before squaring to midfielder Harry Moir who finished from six yards.

The second half started well for United as they kept probing for their third goal which would put the game out of Barwell's reach.

It came on the 50 minute mark. Joe Storer's shot from the right saw it get deflected into the net and despite the best efforts of a Barwell defernder, he couldn't prevent it from going in.

Five minutes later and United had a fourth. Ashley Kirk drilled in a low freekick from well outside the box which went under the jumping wall and into the bottom corner.

The scoring was complete five minutes from time as Odedra scored his second and Glenfield's fifth. He captialised on some hesitation in the Barwell defence before running clean through on goal, rounding the 'keeper and scoring into an empty net.

It was a great result and performance from Glenfield as they continue their cup run which sees them now go into the quarter finals of the Under 14's County Cup.

The second and final game of the day saw Glenfield United Under 8's host Netherhall.

It took just under a minute for the deadlock to be broken, as the visitors' number 10 made it 1-0 before number six doubled their lead.

Halway through the first half and Netherhall made it 3-0 as number eight fired a shot into the top corner. The same player then scored his second and his teams fourth with another good strike, this time with the ball ending up in the bottom corner.

The second half saw a much better performance from Glenfield as they looked for a way back into the game and limited the amount of chances the visitors had.

Netherhall did get a fifth eight minutes from time as number seven scored from a goal mouth scramble.

But it was Glenfield who had the final say as a cross into the box was converted by Louis Fenton whose shot went in off the post as they ended 2012 on a positive note.

Glenfield United results: Glenfield United Under 8 1-5 Netherhall Diamonds, Glenfield United U11 9v9 3-3 Syston Town Pheonix U11 9v9, Glenfield United U14 5-1 AFC Barwell U14, Whetstone Juniors 2012 U14 3-3 Glenfield United 2010 U14, Anstey Swifts FC U18 3-1 Glenfield United U18.

'Tis the season to be ruthless

While we all put on a few pounds stuffing our face with mince pies and cold turkey sandwiches, football managers are busy preparing for the busiest and one of the most important stages of the season.

Leicester manager Nigel Pearson is no exception. Following Saturday's 4-1 win against local rivals Derby, which Pearson described as the best game of the season, City moved up to third in the Championship table. And while they are keen to close the five point gap to leaders Cardiff City, they must also be wary of the chasing pack behind them.

The Foxes have a three point cushion in the playoffs, but with the likes of in form Watford, Millwall and Leeds climbing up the table unnoticed, Leicester must continue their steady if not spectacular recent form.

The Christmas schedule sees Leicester host Barnsley on 8th December, before facing three of the current top seven. They travel to Millwall on 15th December, where by that time the Lions could be on a 14 match unbeaten run if they avoid defeat against Ipswich this weekend.

A week later, Leicester return home to face Cardiff and then on Boxing Day travel to Hull. The final game of the year is also on the road, making the trip to Lancashire to face Burnley, while the first game of 2013 is at home to Huddersfield on New Years Day.

But how crucial was the festive period for teams who went on to get promotion in the past few seasons? And what is Leicester's recent record over Christmas?

2011/12

Reading went on to win the nPower Championship last season, but weren't amongst the front runners at Christmas last year. The Royals were 10th at this stage, but four wins out of four to end 2011 against West Ham, Leeds, Brighton and Ipswich saw them finish the year in the playoffs. Those four results appeared to galvanise their season as they went on to only lose four games for the rest of the season.

As for Leicester, last Christmas wasn't the season of good will. A home draw against Peterborough was followed by defeat at Doncaster before two home draws against Ipswich and Portsmouth. 2012 started well though, with a 2-1 win at Crystal Palace.

2010/11

Queens Park Rangers went on to be champions in the 2010/11 season, after spending all but two matchdays in top spot. However, Christmas was probably the R's worst spell of the season, losing three of their five games. Their first defeat of the season came on the 10th December at home to Watford and in true London bus fashion, lost at Leeds the following week. They bounced back with resounding wins against Swansea and Coventry respectively before starting 2011 with a defeat at Norwich who later joined them in returning to the Premier League.

Ipswich beat Leicester 3-0 in December 2010 at a snow covered Portman Road.
Under Sven Goran-Eriksson, Christmas got off to the perfect start for Leicester with a 5-1 win against Doncaster. The infamous snow game against Ipswich live on Sky saw them lose 3-0 before drawing 2-2 against Leeds on Boxing Day. A defeat at Millwall was quickly forgotten as two wins to start 2011 against Hull and Swansea proved to be the beginning of an eight match unbeaten run which saw Leicester flirt with the playoffs before faltering.

2009/10

If QPR comfortably won the Championship in 2010/11, then Newcastle did it without breaking sweat a season earlier. The Toon amassed a total of 102 points, finishing 23 points ahead of third placed Nottingham Forest and only losing four games all season. They did stutter somewhat over the festive period, although they did remain unbeaten. A 2-2 draw at Barnsley preceeded a 2-0 win against local rivals Middlesbrough. Boxing Day saw another 2-2 at Hillsborough and then a goalless draw against Derby rounded off 2009.

Leicester's Christmas schedule was hit by bad weather, with games at Cardiff and Doncaster both postponed. However, the two games that were played reeped six points against both Sheffield clubs. A 3-0 win against Wednesday, largely thanks to two Andy King goals saw the Foxes consolidate their playoff position. Another Sky game on Boxing Day then saw the red side of the steel city beaten as goals from Michael Morrison and Matty Fryatt were enough to see off Sheffield United 2-1.

So recent history tells us that games over Christmas aren't make or break for a team's season. But if Leicester have any aspirations of promotion this season, then a healthy points return between now and the start of 2013 could prove to be the springboard for a promotion push come the end of the season.

Glenfield United Weekly Review: 18/11/2012

Nine Glenfield United teams were in action across Leicestershire this week, the biggest game being Glenfield United 2010 Under 14's game against Birstall CC at Gynsill Lane.

Prior to kick off, United were in second place in the Under 14G division, with Birstall a point and position behind. With league leaders Harborough not playing this weekend, the winners of the game would go top of the table.

It was the visitors who got off to the best start, taking the lead inside five minutes. Number 11 ran through on goal before firing a shot which the Glenfield 'keeper got a hand to but couldn't keep out.

The game was evenly balanced for the rest of the first half with both sides creating chances. Five minutes before half time, a second goal arrived for Birstall. A cross along the floor by number 9 was met at the far post by number 10 who had a simple tap in to double their lead.

With the first half finishied, the third goal of the game would be crucial. Another for Birstall would kill the game off, one for Glenfield would put them back in the game.

United started the second half well, and their early pressure was rewarded as Sam Leach fired into the bottom left corner.

The hosts could sense a comeback, and ten minutes later they found an equaliser. Dane Mace whipped in a corner which wasn't cleared by Birstall and in the goal mouth melee was poked hime by Alex Pullen.

The turnaround was complete 15 minutes from time, as another right wing corner was headed home by Lewis Goodyear.

Birstall pushed for an equaliser for the remainder of the game, but United held on to go top of the table, two points clear of Harbrorough, who do have two games in hand. Glenfield's next game is away to sixth placed Whetstone Juniors on Sunday.

Glenfield United Under 12 9v9 were in action at Ellis Park, as they welcomed league leaders Medbourne Juniors.

The best chance of the first half fell to United. A freekick from 20 yards was well hit but the Medbourne 'keeper made a good save.

But he made an even better save in the second half, as a long range strike looked set to be flying into the top corner, only for the 'keeper to tip the ball over with an outstretched arm.

It was a superb save to keep the score goalless, before Medbourne took the lead. Their number seven turned and shot from the edge of the area and the ball sneaked into the bottom corner.

That proved to be the only goal of the game, as Glenfield were unlucky not to score past an inspired performance from Medbourne's number one. They will be encouraged though that they more than held their own against a team who are top of the league and lost only once this season. Their next game is away to Cosby United on Sunday.

Finally, Glenfield United Tigers Under nine's were in action against Asfordby Under nine's. The visitors took the lead after six minutes with a strike from the edge of the area.

That lead was doubled five mnutes before half time with another long range shot, this time scored by number seven.

The second half saw Asfordby play a very attacking formation, which was rewarded with six more goals. Two goals from number nine were sandwiched by second goals for numbers four and seven, before the same two scored another goal apiece to get their hat-tricks.

Although the scoreline looked one sided, Glenfield played well throughout the match as they continue to start off playing competitve football for the first time.

Glenfield United results: Glenfield United Lions U9 0-4 Rugby Town Tigers U9, Glenfield United Tigers U9 0-8 Asfordby Amateurs, Melton Foxes 2009 U11 9v9 0-2 Glenfield United U11 9v9, Glenfield United U12 9v9 0-1 Medbourne Juniors U12 9v9, Glenfield United Under 14 2-5 Allexton & New Parks U14, Oadby Owls Tawnys U14 0-5 Glenfield United 2005 U14, Glenfield United 2010 U14 3-2 Birstall CC U14, Fleckney Athletic U18 8-0 Glenfield United U18

Glenfield United Weekly Review - 11/11/2012

There were two home games this Sunday at Gynsill Lane, on a day where we remember how grateful we are to the British soldiers that have fought and died for their country over the years.

A minutes silence was observed prior to Glenfield United 2005 Under 14's game against Oadby at 10:30 and then agan at 12:30 for the Under 7's Foxes game against East Goscote.

The Under 14's were looking to bounce back from a 3-2 defeat at Groby last week, and had the perfect opportunity against bottom of the table Oadby Owls Tawnys.

And the hosts took the lead after just three minutes. A lovely pass from midfielder Lochlan Murray found striker Luke Savage who cooly finished.

United doubled their lead inside the 20 minute mark. From a second consecutive corner Oadby failed to clear. A goalmouth scramble ensued before Jacob Watkins prodded the ball over the line.

Glenfield kept pushing for a third to put the game to bed, but had to wait until 15 minutes into the second half to get that goal. A cross into the box was headed away by an Oadby defender only into the path of Savage who shot past the 'keeper.

The scoring was complete with five minutes left. Another through ball found Murray one-on-one with the 'keeper before going round him and shooting into an empty net.

Glenfield remain seventh in the table with nine points from their seven games. Both teams meet again next weekend in the league cup.

The second and final game of the day saw Glenfield United Foxes Under 7's take on East Goscote.

The visitors took the lead after five minutes. A pass across the box found number five who had a simple tap in.

Glenfield kept pushing for an equaliser for the remainder of the half, but it was Goscote who got the important second with virtually the last kick of the first 20 minutes. A cross from number seven found number nine whose shot looped in.

Number seven then went from provider to goalscorer as he made it 3-0 with a shot which went in off the bar.

With ten minutes remaining, the visitors had a great chance to make it 4-0 with a penalty. However, number nine shot wide of the left hand post.

United then responded when they won a penalty of their own which Harrison Webb fired into the roof of the net to make the final score Glenfield United Foxes Under 7's 1-3 East Goscote Under 7's.

Glenfield United results: Glenfield United Foxes U7 1-3 East Goscote U7, Coalville Town Rooks U10 0-4 Glenfield United Tigers U10, Glenfield United U11 9v9 0-7 Markfield Colts, Thurmaston Magpies JFC U14 8-0 Glenfield United U14, Glenfield United 2005 U14 4-0 Oadby Owls Tawnys U14, Cosby United U14 1-2 Glenfield United 2010 U14

Leicester City v Nottingham Forest - Match Preview

The Foxes face their first East Midlands derby of the season as they host Nottingham Forest at the King Power stadium on Saturday lunchtime, a game broadcast live on Sky.

City were unbeaten in the four meetings last season, drawing twice in the league and again in an FA Cup Third Round tie before winning the replay 4-0.

A lot has changed for both teams since last season, most notbaly for the visitors who were the subject of a Kuwaiti takeover in the summer and are now managed by Sean O'Driscoll.

Leicester have some defensive troubles ahead of the 103rd meeting. Paul Konchesky will definitly missing after picking up a hamstring injury against Bolton on Tuesday, as will centre back Sean St Ledger. However, Zak Whitbread returns after his one match suspension.

Striker Jamie Vardy is also out, so Martyn Waghorn is expected to carry on alongside David Nugent up front.

Michael Keane, signed on loan from Manchester United on Monday, went off as a precaution on Tuesday night but should be ok, while fellow loanee Jesse Lingard is pushing for a starting berth.

Forest were dealt a blow this week when it was revealed midfielder Radoslaw Majewski would be out until at least the New Year with ankle ligament damage.

Adlene Guedioura is expected to replace the Polish international, with Henri Lansbury and Lewis McGugan also possible options.

Jermaine Jenas is out through injury, while Andy Reid, Dan Harding (both hamstring) and Simon Cox (foot) will have fitness tests.

Leicester captain Wes Morgan on facing his former club: "I spent a long time at Forest, and I have a lot of fond memories and good times there.

"One of the big regrets is that I was never part of a Forest side that reached the Premier League.

"Now I want to achieve that dream with Leicester. I came here because I wanted the challenge and we have a great chance this season.

Nottingham Forest manager Sean O'Driscoll: "I'm trying to put processes in place that will stand this club in good stead in the future. We’re just trying to be consistent in what we do.

"“We’re still forming as a team – the teams that are coming to the fore in the division, the likes of Cardiff and Leicester, have worked out that throwing around big money doesn’t necessarily work in the Championship.

“Having some financial strength helps but it’s the little things that don’t cost anything that are quite often the most important.”

Match Odds: Leicester (4/5) Draw (13/5) Nottingham Forest (100/30)

Leicester to win 3-1 (14/1) 0-0 Draw (10/1) Nottingham Forest to win 2-1 (12/1)

Andy King to score in 90 minutes (9/2) Billy Sharp to score first (15/2)

Glenfield United Weekly Review - 04/11/12

Seven Glenfield United teams were in action on what was the wettest weekend of the season so far.

Glenfield United Under 14's were in County Cup third round action, taking on Leicester Nirvana at Gynsill Lane. Only one league place separates both sides, with United bottom of division one and Nirvana top of the second division.

The deadlock was broken 10 minutes into the first half as United took the lead. A cross into the box was headed down by Sam Cufflin into the path of Charlie Royle who slotted past the 'keeper.

Three minutes later and the lead was doubled. A low cross into the box found Harry Moir who fired home from six yards.

Glenfield were playing confidently and could have further extended their lead inside 20 minutes, but Royle struck the post from a tight angle.

Nirvana looked set to pull a goal back on the half hour mark, but the score remained 2-0 thanks to superb defending from Ashley Kirk, blocking a shot on the goal line with his back whilst falling backwards.

The two goal lead remained until five minutes after the second half when Glenfield added a third. A through ball found striker Shiv Odedra who ran clear through the opponents half before rounding the 'keeper and scoring.

It was a very good goal and gave Glenfield complete control of the cup tie. Nirvana did pull a goal back on the hour mark though as number 17 shot into the bottom left corner on the edge of the area from a right wing cross.

But any hopes of a Nirvana comeback were absolutely dashed as two minutes from time, Royle added his second and United's fourth to book their place into the last 16 of the under 14's County Cup.

The final home game of the day saw Glenfield United Tigers Under 10's take on a Hamilton side who had won all three of their league games this season.

The visitors took the lead after five minutes. A left wing corner wasn't fully cleared and number 10 scored with a half volley.

United had the ideal opportunity to level the scores after ten minutes after they won a penalty. Striker Harry Noble stepped up after winning the spot kick but just missed the target, firing wide of the left hand post.

Hamilton responded with two quick goals just before half time. Firstly a right wing corner was met again by number 10, who this time struck the ball on the volley, to make it 2-0 before the same player got his hat-trick as a hit a first time shot into the bottom right corner.

A minute into the second half Hamilton got a fourth as he scored from a tight angle before number 10 scored his fourth and Hamilton's fifth. Good work from number five down the left wing saw him square the ball to the striker who slid in and scored into the bottom corner.

Despite the scoreline looking one sided, United had created chances throughout the match and got their reward with five minutes left as Noble unleashed a powerful shot from inside the box which gave the visiting 'keeper no chance.

However, it was Hamilton who had the final say as number seven made it 6-1 with a shot from the edge of the box into the top left corner. The result means Hamilton retain their 100% record with now four wins from four. Glenfield meanwhile, are sixth in the table with three points from their five games. The Tigers travel to Coalville Town next weekend who are a place above them in the early standings.

Glenfield United results: Kingsway Rangers 3-3 Glenfield United Lions U9, Glenfield United Tigers U10 1-6 Hamilton Youth U10, Sileby Juniors 2011 U11 9v9 1-1 Glenfield United U11 9v9, GNG U12 Lions 9v9 7-0 Glenfield United U12 9v9 (County Cup), Glenfield United U14 4-1 Leicester Nirvana U14 (County Cup), Groby Juniors U14 3-2 Glenfield United 2005 U14, Ibstock United Youth U14 1-2 Glenfield United 2010 U14.

Bolton Wanderers v Leicester City - Match Preview

Following two consecutive defeats, Leicester City will be desperate for the three points when they travel to Bolton on Tuesday evening.

The Foxes lost 2-1 at Watford on Saturday, but the trip to the Reebok offers the immediate opportunity to recover and get their promotion campaign back on track.

Despite many people's pre season favourites struggling in 17th in the table, Wanderers' home record is strong having only lost once and beating league leaders Cardiff on Saturday.

New manager Dougie Freedman, taking charge of his second game, will have to make do without striker David Ngog after he was sent off on Saturday. Kevin Davies, Marvin Sordell and Benik Afobe are all in contention to start.

Martin Petrov is also in contention to start after coming off the bench and scoring against Cardiff. Matt Mills is also likely to start, coming up against his former club.

Goalkeeper Andy Lonergan, defender David Wheater, midfielder Stuart Holden and young striker Josh Vela are all still absentees.

The Foxes will be without defender Zak Whitbread after the American was sent off in the defeat against Watford. But manager Nigel Pearson can welcome back right back Richie de Laet, meaning Liam Moore is likely to drop in at centre half alongside Wes Morgan.

Jamie Vardy may return if he recovers from the calf problem that saw him miss the trip to Hertfordshire, but may have to make do with a place on the bench.

Lloyd Dyer, Martyn Waghorn and Marko Futacs are all pushing for starts after coming off the bench on Saturday.

Bolton Wanderers manager Dougie Freedman (speaking after the win against Cardiff on Saturday): "I learnt today that this team can respond from setbacks and not just put their heads down when things aren't going right for them.

"We've got a group of players in there who are up for the challenge and this is a team that I think will play in the Premier League.

"It was difficult to take being 1-0 down at half-time, but it was a terrific response from our players after the break."

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson (speaking after the defeat against Watford on Saturday): "That is two games running (we have lost) which is something we need to rectify relatively quickly.

"But what I would say is as a group of players, so far this season they have been excellent.

"On the face of it, yes it has been a tough couple of games where we have not performed well as a team. But the reason for this is because we have too many players who are not quite hitting the very high standards of performance that they have hit so far this season."

Match odds: Bolton (7/5) Draw (12/5) Leicester (17/10)

Bolton to win 2-0 (11/1) Leicester to win 1-0 (9/1)

Watford v Leicester City - Match Preview

After defeat last Saturday, Leicester are looking to return to winning ways with a trip to Watford.

The 2-1 defeat against Crystal Palace, the first home loss of the season and first defeat in eight matches, saw City surrender top spot to Cardiff and also saw the chasing pack close the gap.

Tomorrow they travel to Hertfordshire needing a win to stay in the top two, but Watford themselves are desperate for the three points after suffering two consecutive defeats against Cardiff and Blackburn.

Gianfranco Zola is set to welcome back midfielder Almen Abdi, but the match will come too soon for Geoffrey Mujangi Bia.

Nyron Nosworthy, Prince Buaben, John Eustace and Neuton will also be missing for the Hornets

Foxes manager Nigel Pearson will have to make one change as right back Richie De Laet is suspended, so Liam Moore will deputise.

Striker Jamie Vardy is also a doubt with a calf injury, with Martyn Waghorn likely to replace him if the former Fleetwood striker doesn't recover.

Neil Danns and Paul Gallagher could also feature for the first time this season, with both likely to have a place on the bench.

Watford manager Gianfranco Zola: "We have been working on not defending too deep and we did some things on that. We are going to try to do more on Friday.

"I have always been told that when you have a problem, it is solved when you realise you have a problem. We are aware of it and we are working on it, and will carry on doing so.

"It is not just down to us though, it is also a mentality. The tendency in this country when you want to defend safely, is to defend in your own box. It is a difficult thing to change but we are going to get there."

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson: "We’ll travel with 18 and he (Danns) will be one of them.

"We have a smallish squad and players that aren’t currently involved need to work very hard. If they are involved and get their opportunity, then the ball is in their court.

"I have no qualms about Liam coming back in for us, he’s done very well this season and good luck to him!”

Match odds: Watford (23/10) Draw (5/2) Leicester (11/10)

Watford to win 2-1 (10/1) Leicester to win 2-0 (9/1)

Troy Deeney first goalscorer (7/1) Andy King to score in 90 minutes (9/2)

Glenfield United Weekly Review - 28/10/2012

There was 12:30 game at Gynsill Lane this weekend, so just the two games to report on for this weeks review.

Glenfield United Under 12's 9v9 were in action on Sunday morning at Ellis Park as they took on league leaders Coalville Town.

The first half remained goalless, with the best chances of the half falling to the visitors. On 20 minutes Coalville had a goal ruled out for offside and five minutes later, the visitors should have broken the deadlock.

Good work from number four down the left wing saw him get to the byline before crossing along the floor where an unmarked number 11 hit the ball first time from six yards but shot straight at the Glenfield 'keeper.

The second half did see a breakthrough though as Coalville's number five scored after 34 minutes. A pass across the box was pounced upon by the striker who had a tap in from a couple of yards.

United kept pushing for an equaliser, but it was Coalville who got the decisive second goal. Number ten received the ball from a Glenfield goal kick before striking the ball with the inside of his right foot into the bottom right corner.

It was a fine finish and put the game out of Glenfield's reach. The result also meant only a second home defeat for United in two years. Coalville remain joint top of the Under 12's Division Three table, while Glenfield are fifth in the table with seven points from five games.

Glenfield United 2010 Under 14's were the second and final game of the day, as they took on top of the table Harborough Town 2012.

The league leaders took the lead after 15 minutes. A cross from the left by number 10 reached number 11 in the box who took a touich before firing into the roof of the net.

The lead was doubled on the half hour mark as number 10's shot from the edge of the area was deflected in off Glenfield's number four.

Five minutes after the break, Harborough's number 16 made it 3-0 with a header from a corner. With 20 minutes left the score was complete as a cross from the left hit number six's shin and trickled over the line to make the final score 4-0.

Harborough remain top and are five points clear of second place, while Glenfield are in fourth place with 11 points from their first six games. Their next game is away to eight placed Ibstock United Youth on Sunday.

Finally, congratulations to Glenfield United Under 11s 9v9, who got their first points of the season with a 2-2 draw at Loughborough Dynamo 2004. In fact, Loughborough Dynamo proved a happy hunting ground this weekend, as Glenfield United 2005 U14s beat their Dynamo counterparts 2-1. Those three points leave them seventh in the table with six points from five games.

Glenfield United results: Loughborough Dynamo 2004 U11 9v9 2-2 Glenfield United U11 9v9; Glenfield United U12 9v9 0-2 Coalville Town U12 9v9; Glenfield United U14 1-2 Harborough Town JFC U14; Loughborough Dynamo JFC U14 1-2 Glenfield United 2005 U14; Glenfield United 2010 U14 0-4 Harborough Town 2012 U14s; Wigston United FC U18 6-0 Glenfield United U18.

Leicester City v Crystal Palace - Match Preview

Leicester City face a tough test to maintain their lead at the top of the nPower Championship as they host fourth placed Crystal Palace at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

The Eagles are without a manager after Dougie Freedman left to join Bolton in midweek, and their first game without the Scotsman saw them draw 1-1 at Barnsley.

City, also looking to continue their 100% home record, hope to have David Nugent and Richie De Laet available. Top goalscorer Nugent went off with an Achilles problem in the win against Brighton in midweek, while right back De Laet suffered from chest pains.

The only guarenteed absentee is defender Sean St Ledger with a hamstring injury, so Zak Whitbread is set to continue in defence. Jamie Vardy could come back into the side to replace striker Martyn Waghorn.

Palace welcome back Dean Moxey and Wilfried Zaha after they both served a one match ban for picking up five yellow cards.

Jonathan Williams is in contention to start after being rested for the midweek trip to Yorkshire, while left back Jonathan Parr could keep his place at left back.

However, former Leicester captain Paddy McCarthy won't feature as he continues to recover from a groin injury which has kept him out all season.

Leicester City assistant manager Craig Shakespeare: "Performances and where we are in the table suggests we're doing something right and the players have to take credit for that.

"As they have been over the last few years, I would expect Crystal Palace to be hard to beat, hard to break down and with a threat in Glenn Murray in terms of his goal-scoring record. It will be a difficult game for us.

"If you pick one player out, you’d have to pick Zaha out at the moment with the way he is playing"

Crystal Palace defender Peter Ramage: "We fear nobody in this league and results have shown throughout the season that anybody can beat anybody.

"We go to Leicester full of confidence, go and do what we do best, and hopefully we can get a positive result."

Match odds: Leicester (1/2) Draw (3/1) Crystal Palace (6/1)

Leicester to win 2-1 (7/1) 0-0 Draw (14/1) Crystal Palace to win 1-0 (14/1)

Ben Marshall to score first (8/1) Glenn Murray to score first 7/1)

Glenfield United Weekly Review - 21/10/2012

Just four Glenfield United teams were in action this weekend, but there were still plenty of good football on offering and also plenty of goals.

The first game of the day saw Glenfield United Under 11s looking for their first points of the season as they took on Beaumont Town at Ellis Park.

United got off to the perfect start, taking the lead after six minutes. The first corner of the game fell to Tom Cunningham at the back post who shot into the bottom corner.

Beaumont, who had only lost one game all season prior to this weekend, were pushing for an equaliser for much of the first half. But Glenfield 'keeper Louis Taylor was equal to everyhing, coming off his line on numerous occasions to pull off some great saves and keep United's lead intact.

15 minutes into the second half, Glenfield had the perfect chance to double their lead as they were awarded a penalty. It was 'keeper Taylor who was picked to take it. After a long walk from the other end of the pitch, he struck the penalty straight down the middle but it was saved by his Beaumont counterpart.

The hosts were punished three minutes later as Beaumont equalised. An initial shot was parried away, only for number 4 to follow up and score.

The game could've gone either way in the last 15 minutes, but sadly it went to the visitors. A Beaumont corner was cleared, but only as far as number 5 who fired in on the volley into the bottom corner.

Glenfield kept pushing for a deserved equaliser, but sadly it wasn't to be. It was a harsh result on United as their performance warranted at least a point. But on this display, their first points of the season are just around the corner.

Glenfield United Lions Under 9's were the second team in home action this weekend, as they took on Netherhall Diamonds at Gynsill Lane.

United got off to a blistering start, scoring three goals in ten minutes. The deadlock was broken when the Diamonds 'keeper misjudged a long pass, allowing striker Harry Laundon to tap in.

It was 2-0 when strike partner Kalon Taylor received a superb through ball and beat the 'keeper with a fine finish.

The duo then combined for the third goal. Taylor's rasping shot from the edge of the area was superbly saved, but following up was Laundon for another tap in.

Netherhall came out all guns blazing for the second half as they turned the game upside down in ten minutes.

Number 7 grabbed a goal back as he followed up a shot that was parried into the bottom left corner, before number 11 scored with a half volley.

It was 3-3 when number 8 scored from a freekick which wasn't fully cleared, before number 11 grabbed his second of the game to put the Diamonds in the lead for the first time in the game.

That wasn't the case for long though, as Glenfield responded with a fourth goal. Another fine through ball was seized upon by Taylor who shot under the keeper into the bottom corner.

With five minutes left, the game was finely in the balance. The final goal of the game went to Netherall as number 5 scored from inside the area.

Again, it was a harsh scoreline for Glenfield as they also deserved to take something from the game. But they can take positives from the game, including that they more than matched their opponents who have now won all four of their league games and top the table. The result leaves Glenfield Lions Under 9's fifth in the table with four points from four games.

The final game of the day saw Glenfield United Under 18's take on Anstey Swifts in the league cup quarter final.

Anstey took the lead after ten minutes as defender number five headed home unmarked at the back post from a freekick.

United responded well though, and got a deserved equaliser after 20 minutes. A freekick from Jake Moseley was headed in at the back post from midfielder Adam Law.

It looked like both teams would be ending the first half all square, but Anstey retook the lead moments before half time. Number nine broke the offside trap before baring down on goal and then squaring the ball to number ten for a simple tap in.

The second half began with Glenfield still pushing for an equaliser which would take the game into extra time, but it was the visitors who scored the fourth goal of the game which put the game beyond doubt.

A long ball from the Anstey defence was latched onto by their number 10 who rounded the 'keeper and scored into an open goal.

That's how the match finished, meaning the under 18's can now concentrate on league matters after being knocked out of both cups.

Glenfield United results: Glenfield United Lions U9 4-5 Netherhall Diamonds U9, Glenfield United U11 9v9 1-2 Beaumont Town U11 9v9, Harborough Town JFC U14s 6-0 Glenfield United U14s, Glenfield United U18s 1-3 Anstey Swifts U18s.

Leicester City v Brighton & Hove Albion - Match Preview

League leaders Leicester City will be looking to consolidate their position at the top of the Championship as they host Brighton at the King Power Stadium.

Following the 1-1 draw at Birmingham on Saturday, coupled with Cardiff's defeat at Nottingham Forest, the Foxes went top of the second tier for the first time since April 2003. The aim now is to build a lead and stay there.

Of course, it won't be easy and Tuesday's opponents are the perfect example of how things can change quickly in the Championship.

Following five straight wins, Gus Poyet's men were two points clear at the top after seven games. But two points and two goals in the last four games has seen Albion slip to eighth.

Leicester manager Nigel Pearson has to decide whether to start with Ben Marshall after the winger came off the bench and scored an 86th minute equaliser.

Jamie Vardy is also in contention to start after recovering from an illness. The ex Fleetwood striker featured for the last 18 minutes and could replace Martyn Waghorn.

Sean St Ledger is the only guarenteed absentee as he recovers from a hamstring injury, so Zak Whitbread is set to continue alongside captain Wes Morgan.

Brighton are expected to be without Will Hoskins (foot) and Vicente (thigh) after they both missed the 1-0 home defeat against Middlesbrough.

Striker Stephen Dobbie is in contention to start after featuring from the bench on Saturday, while Kazenga Lua Lua and Will Buckley are also hoping to start.

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson (speaking after the game at Birmingham): "I thought we played exceptionally well again and sometimes things don't go quite your way.

"Our players kept their concentration and were professional.

"We should have had three points but we haven't drawn a game for God knows how long, so a positive is that we haven't lost."

Brighton manager Gus Poyet (speaking after the defeat against Middlesbrough): "It's painful really. Right now we are not scoring. We have the best defence in the Championship yet we can't win.

"It is up to us. It's a team problem in terms of how many chances you create. We only have ourselves to blame for not scoring.

"In our recent home games we have had chances to win easily. If the players were not trying I would be very upset. The only thing you can ask is for them to put the ball in the net."

Match odds:

Leicester (10/11) Draw (12/5) Brighton (11/4)

Leicester to win 2-1 (15/2) 0-0 draw (9/1) Brighton to win 1-0 (17/2)

Time of first goal 31-40 (6/1)

Birmingham City v Leicester City - Match Preview

Leicester City return from the international break looking for their sixth consecutive win as they travel to struggling Birmingham City.

The Foxes, currently second in the nPower Championship, will also be hoping that they can regain top spot in the league after heading the table for only a few hours after their last win against Bristol City.

Should Cardiff drop points at Nottingham Forest, Leicester will go top of the table with a win but it won't be easy as the Blues look to bounce back from two consecutive home defeats against Barnsley and Huddersfield.

Recent new signing Papa Bouba Diop looks set to miss out as paperwork to sort out his visa hasn't gone through, while striker Nikola Zigic is suspended after receiving a red card against Huddersfield.

Chelsea loanee Ben Gordon has recently picked up a knee injury and is a major doubt, while fellow left back David Murphy has missed the last three games with a hamstring injury and is also doubtful.

Defensive options are low for Lee Clark's men as Stephen Carr, Paul Caddis and Pablo Ibanez are all out, but Curtis Davies could return.

The Foxes are definitely without defender Sean St Ledger after a hamstring injury ruled him out for four weeks, so Liam Moore or Zak Whitbreak will take his place.

Striker Jamie Vardy, an ever-present in the league this season, is a doubt as he has an illness and has been unable to train all week.

Paul Gallagher is available after his loan spell at Sheffield United came to an end last week.

Birmingham City boss Lee Clark: "This is a week where we can go and get nine points and get the season up and running and push forward.

"I've got total belief in my players and individuals and total belief in them as a group.

"Our start on Saturday has got to be so much better than in previous games  and we've got to play in Leicester City's half and put them under pressure."

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson: "We’ve got to try to pick up where we left off before the break, which isn’t always easy.

“It’s important for us to go into the game with a positive mind-set, as we have done in every game so far this season. I think one of our main strengths has been that we are a positive team in terms of how we set up and how we go about games.

“We’ll try to do that again, but we’re very aware of the fact that they (Birmingham) have some very good players."

Match Odds: Birmingham City (2/1) Draw (12/5) Leicester City (5/4)

Birmingham to win 2-1 (9/1) 1-1 draw (11/2) Leicester to win 2-0 (9/1)

Darren Ambrose to score first (12/1) David Nugent to score a brace (8/1)

GUFC Weekend Review - 14/10/2012

Nine Glenfield United teams were in action across Leicestershire this weekend, with several teams looking to bounce back from defeat in the County Cup the week before.

One such team were Glenfield United Under 14's 2010, who after two heavy defeats in both cups over the past two weeks, were looking to maintain their unbeaten record in the league as they hosted Beaumont Town FC Under 14's.

United got off to a great start, taking the lead after five minutes. From the first corner of the game, Beaumont failed to clear and as the ball bobbled around in the box, left back Rhys Marshall fired home.

The lead was doubled after 20 minutes, the goal again coming from a corner. Dane Mace curled the ball in and was tapped in from no more than two yards from Sam Leach.

Glenfield looked comfortable for large parts of the first half, but as half time approached, Beaumont began to get a foothold in the game. Their pressure was rewarded with a goal two minutes from the interval as midfielder number 8 scored with a long range strike.

United kept hold of their one goal lead for 20 minutes but Town found an equaliser in impressive fashion. Number 6 whipped in a freekick from 25 yards which stayed low and sneaked in to the bottom corner.

And it looked like that Beaumont would grab all three points as they took the lead for the first time in the game six minutes from time. A goalmouth scramble fell to number 11 who tapped in to the delight of the visiting players and parents watching from the touchline.

However, United deservedly salvaged something from the game with a dramatic equaliser two minutes before the final whistle. A shot from inside the penalty area was parried away by the Beaumont keeper, only to be tapped in at the far post by the advancing Mace.

It showed great character from the players to get a point from the game when they could've easily given up the fight. The 3-3 draw means they remain unbeaten in the league, where they sit in third position from five games.

Glenfield United Tigers Under 9's were looking for their first points of the season as they took on Cosby United Colts Under 9's in the early game at Gynsill Lane.

The game started fairly evenly, with both sides having half chances to take the lead. However, the deadlock was broken by the visitors as they scored two goals in as many minutes.

Firstly, a shot from the edge of the area by Cosby's number three found the bottom corner before number nine ran clear through on goal and shot into the same corner.

United responded well though and scored the goal of the game after 11 minutes. Striker Mason Malon received the ball before shooting into the top left corner and gave the Cosby 'keeper no chance.

The score remained 2-1 until two minutes into the second half, where once again Cosby scored two quickfire goals to put the result beyond doubt.

Number nine fired in a low first time shot right footed into the bottom left corner, before the same player completed his hat-trick  as he held the ball up in the area before turning and firing low into the net.

Despite being three goals down, United's heads didn't go down as they kept creating chances. Two shots went wide before the Cosby 'keeper made a good save at his near post after good passing from Glenfield created the opportunity.

Four minutes from full time, Cosby went on to add another two goals. Number 12 showed good close control before firing low into the net and then number five got on the scoresheet as he finished from a corner.

Glenfield United Under 7's Hawks took on Fleckney Athletic Under 7's in a friendly at Gynsill Lane.

The Hawks took the lead after four minutes. An initial shot was saved by the Fleckney 'keeper, but the ball rebounded off captain Jake Green and into the net.

United kept their lead until ten minutes into the game. Number 10 ran onto a long ball before firing a shot into the roof of the next to equalise.

The visitors then took the lead from the penalty spot, as number eight was brought down. Number 10 converted the spot kick, shooting straight down the middle. Three minutes later, Fleckney made it 3-1 thanks to an own goal.

United cut the deficit back to one goal as Jake Green scored his second. Green took a corner from the left which hit the post. The rebound fell straight back to the striker whose crosee sneaked in at the near post.

The second half saw a goal bonanza for the visitors as they scored seven goals during the next 20 minutes.

Number eight got his first goal of the game as he scored from a tight angle, before number 10 got his hat-trick when he rounded the 'keeper.

Number 10 scored his fourth goal on the half hour mark to make it 6-2, before two minutes later number eight scored his second.

He then scored his hat-trick with a cross that sneaked into the far post before scoring a fourth goal three minutes later.

Number 10 got another to make it 9-2 and number four put the score in double figures with the last kick of the game.

The Hawks have tasted two victories and two defeats so far this season as they continue to develop as young footballers.

Glenfield United Weekly Review - 07/10/12

The first weekend of October heralded County Cup action across Leicestershire, which saw four Glenfield United teams in knockout competition action.

Glenfield United Under 11's 9v9 faced a very difficult game as they took on last seasons Division One champions and current top flight leaders Woodgate 80 at Ellis Park. There was also a familiar face in the visitors line up, with former United player Morgan Enoux starting up front.

It was Enoux who opened the scoring after three minutes, firing in from close range. Woodgate doubled their lead five minutes later as number seven volleyed home direct from a corner.

Number five added a third before Enoux, son of Glenfield United Lions U9 manager Pierrick, made it 4-0 as he rounded the 'keeper. On the stroke of half time, number seven got his second of the game.

Woodgate showed their class throughout the game, passing the ball confidently and always finding space. Number seven Woodgate's right winger, scored his hat-trick as he found the bottom corner before scoring his fourth two minutes later when tapping in from another corner.

Number two then got on the scoresheet, scoring twice in five minutes before number 9 made it 9-0. Woodgate then made it double figures with ten minutes left as number five scored, while number six made it 11-0.

Enoux then brought up his hat-trick by lobbing the Glenfield 'keeper, before number two also scored his third to make it 13-0.

Number seven scored his fourth, before Enoux rounded off the scoring with two minutes left to make it Glenfield United Under 11 9v9 0-15 Woodgate 80.

The silver lining from this cloud is hopefully Glenfield can take some tips from Woodgate's playing style. If they can do that, then success will come at some point down the line.

Also in County Cup action were Glenfield United Under 14's 2010, as they hosted Leicester Bharat, two divisions higher, at Gynsill Lane.

Bharat took the lead after six minutes as number 12 got put through one-on-one and slid the ball past the onrushing Glenfield 'keeper.

Fifteen minutes later and Bharat scored as a second, again through number 12. A cross from the left by number six was met by the striker who turned and shot into the bottom right corner.

United grabbed a goal back five minutes later though. A cross by Dame Mace was headed in from the edge of the six yard box by Sam Leach.

However, Bharat's two goal lead was restored just a few moments later, and it was number 12 again who secured his hat-trick. He beat the offside trap and ran through on goal before poking the ball under the keeper.

Three minutes before half time and the visitors netted a fourth. A shot from number 11 hit the bar but the rebound fell into the path of number 16 who had a simple finish.

A six minute hat-trick from Bharat's number 7 at the start of the second half then ended all hope for Glenfield. Two minutes in, the right winger hit a screamer from the edge of the box, before another long range strike arrowed into the roof of the net. He then bagged his third with a right foot finish from close range.

A diving header from number 16 made it 8-1, before a defensive mix up saw number 12 score his fourth and Bharat's ninth.

Number 11 then added two more to take the score into double figures, making it 11-1, but Glenfield had the final word.

Another cross by Dame Mace was met by Reece Marshall who turned in the area and fired into the corner.

Attention for the under 14's 2010 team now turns to the league, where they still remain unbeaten and in a good position for promotion this season.

The other two teams in County Cup action this weekend were Glenfield United Under 18's, also against Leicester Bharat, and Glenfield United Under 14's, who played at Broughton Villa.

Like the Under 14's 2010 team, the Under 18's were playing Leicester Bharat in the County Cup. They also succumbed to defeat though, losing 2-0. However, the Under 14's restored some cup pride, as they won 4-2 at Broughton Villa.

Glenfield United Tigers Under 8's were also in action, at home to Melton Foxes.

The visitors took the lead after four minutes as number five broke away and shot into the bottom right corner.

Glenfield responded quickly though and equalised three minutes later as George Meadows followed up a shot spilt by the Melton 'keeper and fired into the top corner.

There were no more goals in the first half, but it was a very entertaining first 20 minutes as both sides played good football and looked for a lead.

It was Melton who took that lead four minutes into the second half through an own goal, before three minutes later they made it 3-1 as number five scored thanks to the right hand post.

Ten minutes from time Melton made it 4-1 as number ten scored a one-on-one, while number five got his hat-trick when he tapped home a rebounded shot from his number seven team mate.

So not a good day results wise for Glenfield United, but at least the weather was nice!

Glenfield United results: Glenfield United Tigers U8 L-W Melton Foxes U8, Riverside United Kestrels U9 9-0 Glenfield United Tigers U9, Glenfield United U11 9v9 0-15 Woodgate 80, Kingsway Rangers U12 9v9 1-1 Glenfield United U12 9v9, Broughton Villa U14 2-4 Glenfield United U14, Glenfield United U14 2010 2-11 Leicester Bharat U14, Leicester Bharat U18 2-0 Glenfield United U18

Glenfield United Weekly Review - 30/09/2012

Eight Glenfield United teams were in action this weekend, including our three under 14 teams who were all in league cup action.

There are two different league cups at under 14 level; the ABC trophy, consisting of teams in the top three divisions A,B and C, and the DEFG shield, with teams from the bottom four divisions entering.

Division A Glenfield United under 14’s welcomed C division Quorn to Gynsill Lane in the under 14 ABC trophy. United got off to a great start, taking the lead after two minutes thanks to a 25 yard strike from midfielder Harry Martin.

United spent most of the first half looking for a second goal, but just like London buses, two goals came in quick succession at the start of the second half.

From the Quorn kick off to begin the second half, United striker Shivang Odedra stole the ball and passed to strike partner Charlie Royle who found the bottom corner.

The same duo combined for the third goal two minutes later. Odedra ran down the wing and passed to Royle who finished superbly, firing in off the right hand post.

By now the game was beyond doubt and United were marching into the next round of the cup. A fourth goal was added with 15 minutes left when a corner from Royle was diverted in by a Quorn defender for an own goal.

Quorn grabbed a consolation two minutes from time as substitute number 16 fired in from 20 yards.

In the DEFG shield, Glenfield United 2005 came up against Khalsa for the second time in as many weeks, looking to get revenge for last weekend’s 6-3 defeat in the league. They did so, winning 5-3 at Judgemeadow CC.

However, Glenfield United 2010, who won 16-1 against Karma FC last weekend, were knocked out of the shield, losing 12-0 to Saffron Dynamo Juniors U14, a team three divisions higher.

Glenfield United Under 7 Foxes were also in home action this weekend as they hosted nearby Ratby Pumas. The visitors scored twice in the first half, firstly taking the lead with a six yard shot, then adding a second with a good finish from the Ratby striker into the bottom right corner.

United grabbed a goal back at the beginning of the second half, as Josh Williamson shot into the roof of the net following a goalmouth scramble.

The Pumas restored their two goal lead with a shot from the edge of the area, before a fourth was added with the final kick of the game.

The Under 7 Foxes have won once and lost once this season.

From the youngest to the eldest, and Glenfield United Under 18’s played Leicester Bharat. Notably, this is the third time already this season that both sides have come up against each other. Bharat won a pre-season friendly 5-4, while United got revenge by winning a league cup game 2-0.

United had the perfect opportunity to take the lead when they won a penalty after six minutes. The Bharat ‘keeper had brought down striker Will Mayne, but he made up for it by saving Jake Moseley’s penalty.

The penalty miss didn’t affect Glenfield though as they took the lead ten minutes later. A freekick from Moseley was spilt by the Bharat ‘keeper and Mayne was following up like all good strikers should to tap home.

The lead was doubled five minutes later. Kyle Gough beat the offside trap but saw his shot parried. However, winger Jacob Parkes was in the right place at the right time to have a simple finish.

Glenfield looked comfortable throughout the first half. However, a goal from Bharat’s number 10 striker five minutes into the second half saw them gain confidence that they could salvage something from the game.

And on the hour mark, Bharat levelled the score. Number eight cut in from the right wing and saw his shot creep into the near post.

Bharat weren’t finished their either as number ten completed the turnaround. He held the ball up superbly before turning his marker and shooting from an acute angle into the far corner. It was a fine finish from the striker who has caused Glenfield a lot of problems in the three previous meetings.

United had 15 minutes to grab something from the jaws of defeat, and they left it very late. A long throw from skipper Charlie Collins was flicked on to the far post, and following a goalmouth scramble, the ball was poked home again by Parkes.

The Under 18’s have now played five games this season, drawing three and losing twice. They lie 8th in the MDH Teamwear Leicestershire Youth League Under 18’s table.

Middlesbrough v Leicester City - Match Preview

After securing back to back wins for the first time by beating Hull City on Sunday, Leicester City will be hoping to get another monkey off their back as they face the long trip north to Middlesbrough.

The Foxes visit the Riverside still looking for their first away win of the season after defeats at Charlton, Blackburn and Wolves. But it will be a tough test for City, who face a Boro side with a 100% home record.

Manager Tony Mowbray is set to ring the changes after making 11 for the win at Preston in the Capital One Cup in midweek.

However, there are doubts over Jason Steele and Grant Leadbitter (both calf), Justin Hoyte and Jonathan Woodgate (both hamstring) and Ishmael Miller (groin), while Rhys Williams and Curtis Main are definitely ruled out.

City manager Nigel Pearson, returning to the club where he spent four years as a player and captained them to two promotions, three cup finals and a relegation, has no new injury concers and will pick from an unchanged squad. Richie Wellens is the only absentee as he continues to recover from knee surgery.

Should Pearson want to change his line up, then he can call upon fit again defender Zak Whitbread, midfielders Andy King and Lloyd Dyer and strikers Martyn Waghorn, Jeff Schlupp and Marko Futacs who were all on the bench against Hull.

Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray: “Hopefully we can pick a team that can be ready and up for the challenge and keep our good run of form at home going. It’s a game we are looking forward to and we go into it in a confident mood but we will have to be at our best to take all three points.

"They’ve had a similar start to the season as us. They’ve won some games and dropped some points along the way

"Having studied them this week, I would have to say they are dangerous opposition with some very good players"

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson: "We’ve put in some decent performances away from home and we’ve not yet perhaps had the rewards we have deserved. We’ve been either careless or unfortunate and it’s a combination of the two.

“But we need to start winning away from home because we’re in touch with the top teams and it illustrates how tight things can be in this league.

"They’ve had a reasonable start themselves and they have some good players, but it’s about what we do in terms of our own performance and if the players show the right spirit and the right qualities, as we did last week, we go there with a good chance"

Match odds: Middlesbrough (17/10) Draw (12/5) Leicester (6/4)

Middlesbrough to win 2-1 (17/2) Leicester to win 1-0 (15/2)

Marvin Emnes to score anytime (7/4) David Nugent to score first (7/1)

Glenfield United Review - 23/09/2012

Seven Glenfield United teams were in action this weekend, and without doubt the first couple of mentions in this weekend's review should go to the under 12's 9v9 and U14's 2010 teams, who were not only our two teams that won, but did so in emphatic fashion.

Kicking off at 10:30 at Ellis Park, the under 12's 9v9 played their Kingsway Rangers counterparts. After winning 5-1 at Borough Alliance the previous weekend, Glenfield's confidence was sky high. But not even the most optimistic of managers, players or parents would've envisaged what would happen over the next hour, with United winning 10-1. That win puts them fourth in the Leicestershire Foxes Sunday League Under 12 9v9 Division 3 table with six points from three games.

The afternoon kick off at Gynsill Lane saw the under 14's 2010 come up against Karma FC. Like the under 12's, United went into the game on the back of a resounding win from last weekend where they won 6-0 at Birstall and a 7-1 win at Lutterworth the week before. But this Sunday, they score as many goals as they did in both them games plus a few more, as they won 16-1. With games at under 14 level being 70 minutes long, on average Glenfield scored at a rate of one goal every four minutes. The thumping win leaves the under 14's 2010 team second in the Leicester & District Sunday Juniors League, with ten points from four games and a goal difference of 27 - unsurprisingly the highest in the division.

The two featured games this weekend involved the under 14's 2005 and under 10 Tigers teams who both played at Gynsill Lane.

The first game of the day saw the under 14's 2005 team take on Khalsa. The hosts got off to a great start, in simple yet effective circumstances. From a Glenfield goal kick, the 'keeper passed to his right back, who then passed forward to the right winger. He played in striker Luke Savage who rounded the 'keeper and shot into an empty net.

However, Khalsa came up with an equaliser five minutes later. A dribble from their number ten through the middle of the park wasn't dealt with by the Glenfield defence which allowed him to shoot from the edge of the area and past the 'keeper.

Khalsa were having the better of the play and went on to score twice more to take control of the game. Firstly, a superb shot from the number nine on the edge of the area went into the top right corner, before another shot from outside the box by their number four made it 3-1.

Glenfield responded well though and grabbed a goal back before the half hour mark. A long ball from the Glenfield 'keeper bounced through to Savage who ran through one-on-one who slotted home for his and his teams second.

With the game delicatley poised, the team who went on to score the next goal was crucial. Sadly for the hosts, it was Khalsa who got it, scoring from the spot through their number ten after he had been fouled in the area.

Once again though, Glenfield got themselves back in with a shout with twenty minutes left which was a contender for goal of the game. A 30 yard strike from Daniel Semandi Curtis went over the 'keeper and into the top right corner and gave the hosts a chance of getting something from the game.

However, an equally good goal from Khalsa saw them restore their two goal lead. A short corner from the left was played to their number 11 who curled a superb strike into the top right hand corner.

Glenfield kept pushing for a way back into the game, but the scoreline was given a resounding look to it when Khalsa scored with the last kick of the game. Another corner from the left was met on the half volley by their number 16 who struck it into the net.

The under 14's 2005 team are seventh in the Leicester & District Sunday Juniors League Alan Worth Photographic Under 14 D table with three points from their first three games. They face Khalsa again next weekend, this time travelling away to play them in the U14 DEFG shield.

The midday kickoff saw Glenfield United Tigers U10 play Barrow Town Hawks U10. Eight minutes in and United took the lead with a superb effort. A shot from outside the area by Jake Beardsmore arrowed into the top right hand corner.

However, the visitors responded two minutes later with an equaliser. A freekick was driven in by number 12 through a crowd of bodies and into the net.

Glenfield continued to play well for the remainder of the first half, but a minute after the break it was Barrow who took the lead as their number two scored from a tight angle.

Four minutes later and Barrow completed their victory. Number 11 had an effort from the edge of the area which sneaked in to give the visitors a 3-1 win. The Tigers are without a point from their first two league games in the Leicester & District Mutual League Division 13 table, but they played some good football throughout the game though and will no doubt get their rewards sooner rather than later.

Glenfield United results: Glenfield United Tigers U10 1-3 Barrow Town Hawks U10; East Goscote Juniors U11 9v9 2-0 Glenfield United U11 9v9; Glenfield United U12 9v9 10-1 Kingsway Rangers U12 9v9; Ravenstone Youth FC U14s 3-2 Glenfield United U14s; Glenfield United 2005 U14s 3-6 FC Khalsa U14s; Glenfield United 2010 U14s 16-1 Karma FC; Friar Lane Junior & Youth FC U18s 3-1 Glenfield United U18s.

Leicester City v Hull City - Match Preview

Leicester City will be going into their game against Hull City on Sunday looking to do something which took them until the beginning of March to achieve last season: win back to back league games.

If City have serious aspirations of promotion this season, then putting winning streaks together will have to be attained. For that to start this weekend they will have to beat a Hull side who themselves are looking for a return to the Premier League and have won their last three games. Indeed, the Tigers have had their best start to a season since 1993/94.

The most recent of victories for the Tigers was an impressive 3-2 win at Leeds on Tuesday night which leaves them in fourth place, a point off early leaders Blackburn. The win at Elland Road came after 4-1 and 3-1 wins at home to Millwall and Bolton respectively.

For the hosts, midfielder Andy King is likely to miss out with a hamstring injury, so Matt James is expected to deputise, with Neil Danns also an option.

David Nugent and Jamie Vardy are both set to continue in attack after both scoring in the 2-1 win against Burnley on Wednesday evening, while French winger Anthony Knockaert is also expected to start after his performance in his first start of the season.

Tigers manager Steve Bruce is likely to name an unchaged side after their midweek victory. Former Fox and son of the manager, Alex Bruce is expected to start in defence, while Robert Koren, a midfielder heavily linked with Leicester in recent seasons, should also start after scoring in his last two games.

Midfielder Abdoulaye Faye has scored in his last three games and should start, while Manchester United loanee Ben Amos will start in goal. However, two former Leicester favourites Jack Hobbs and Matty Fryatt are both out with injuries.

Match odds: Leicester (1/1) Draw (5/2) Hull (13/5)

Leicester to win 2-1 (15/2) Hull to win 1-0 (8/1)

Anthony Knockaert to score first (14/1) Robert Koren to score anytime (3/1)

Leicester City v Burnley - Match Preview

The Foxes face Burnley at the King Power Stadium on Wednesday evening, the first of two home games this week where City will be hoping for maximum points from both.

Following the defeat at Wolves on Sunday, Leicester lie in 16th place with six points from five games. Both of City's wins this season have came at the King Power Stadium and will be looking to maintain their 100% record home record where they are also yet to concede.

Burnley, meanwhile, go into the game on the back of a resounding 5-2 win against Peterborough at the weekend and also have six points and are a place above City in the early Championship standings.

Andy King is a major doubt for Leicester after being substituted in the first half with a hamstring injury. Matty James, Neil Danns and Richie Wellens are all in contention to replace the Welsh international.

Manager Nigel Pearson could make changes to other personnel as well, with Anthony Knockaert and Martyn Waghorn pushing for starts after coming off the bench at Molineux. David Nugent is likely to start against his former club.

Burnley manager Eddie Howe must decide whether to start with Martin Paterson after the striker completed an hour against Peterborough in his recovery from a hamstring problem which left him out for three games.

Top goalscorer Charlie Austin will start up front, while former Fox loanee Ben Mee could also start.

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson: "Individuals have not taken enough responsibility out there (against Wolves), and that is disappointing because we had played well in the games against Blackburn and Blackpool for the majority of the time.

"We have to look at who is available, but we have other players that can come in.

"It is down to hard work and we will get it right."

Burnley manager Eddie Howe: "Confidence is probably the biggest factor for any sportsman so it gives the lads a boost and hopefully we can go to Leicester and give a good account of ourselves.

"Every game you go into is a tough game and it's no different with the next two games we have coming up and the games beyond.

"But I think we have shown in our away games that even though we have been defeated in them, we are more than capable of getting a result."

Match odds: Leicester (4/5) Draw (13/5) Burnley (100/30)

Leicester to win 2-0 (8/1) Burnley to win 1-0 (11/1)

David Nugent to score at anytime (6/4) Charlie Austin to score first (7/1)

Glenfield United Review - 16/09/2012

With the season well and truly underway, six Glenfield United teams took to pitches across Leicestershire looking to get some more points on the board.

The Glenfield United Lions Under 9's team were looking for their first win of the season after their opening day defeat at Barlestone St Giles last week as they took on Fleckney Athletic Under 9's at Gynsill Lane.

After a bright start to the game, the Lions took the lead seven minutes in. Harry Laundon, son of coach and referee for the game Steve, finished superbly by lifting the ball over the advancing Fleckney 'keeper and into the top corner.

However, the old adage that you're most vulnerable to conceding when you've just scored rang true as the visitors scored immediately thanks to their number five.

The scores weren't level for long though as United retook the lead through Kalon Taylor. The striker won the ball in his own half before dodging the tackles of two defenders and firing home in off the post.

Taylor was celebrating minutes later when he scored his second and Glenfield's third. From a throw in, the number nine received the ball before finishing with a strike in the top corner.

The Lions had further chances in the second half to extend their lead but had to settle for the 3-1 win. They lie third in the Leicester and District Mutual League Division Seven table.

Glenfield United Under 11s 9v9 went into their game this weekend against Desford looking to get their first points of the season.

But just four minutes had passed when United conceded a penalty which was duly scored by the visitors' number eight into the top right hand corner.

The home side got back into the game though as they looked comfortable on the ball and created chances. Their good play was rewarded after 17 minutes as Aryan Palana ran down the left and into the box before unleashing a shot which went in off the left hand upright.

Six minutes later things got better for United as they took the lead. A corner from the left was crossed to the edge of the area where a shot was fired in which Alex Davies diverted into the net.

The second half continued with Glenfield playing good football, but the next goal went to Desford. A freekick on the edge of the area was taken by their number eight which went over the wall into the top left corner.

It was a superb freekick which looked to have been the final goal of the game with ten minutes left. However, four minutes from time the game saw a winner which went to the visitors. Once again, it was Desford's number eight with the goal as he tapped in from close range to give him his hat-trick and Desford all three points.

Glenfield are 10th in the Leicestershire Foxes Sunday League Division Five Yellow table without a point from their first three games. Although the result may have been disappointing, the football on show at Ellis Park from Glenfield bodes well for the rest of the season which will surely be rewarded with some victories in the near future.

Glenfield United Under 18's were looking for their first league win of the season when they took on bottom of the table Whitwick at Gynsill Lane.

Three minutes in and Glenfield took the lead. A run and cross by striker Kyle Gough was met by Tak Mazundo who volleyed in superbly from 12 yards.

But much like the under 9's before them, they switched off after taking the lead and saw their lead squandered after five minutes. A long ball from the Whitwick centre back, number 22, wasn't dealt with in the Glenfield defence which allowed their number 10 striker to score.

United created numerous chances as the game progressed, but with ten minutes left it was Whitwick who took the lead from the penalty spot. Number 22 came up from the back to take the kick which was smacked home emphatically.

With the clock ticking down, it looked like Glenfield would end the game with defeat. But four minutes from time an equaliser arrived as a long ball from a throw in was flicked in by Jacob Parkes.

United pressed for a late and arguably deserved winner, but had to make do with a point. The Under 18's are ninth in the MDH Teamwear Leicestershire Youth League Under 18 Premier table with two points from three games.

Elsewhere, the Glenfield United Under 12 9v9 team got the result of the weekend, winning 5-1 away to Borough Alliance 2010 U12 9v9. They currently lie sixth in the Leicestershire Foxes Sunday League Under 12 9v9 Division Three table with three points from two games. Next week, they host Kingsway Rangers at Ellis Park.

Glenfield United weekend results: Glenfield United Lions U9 3-1 Fleckney Athletic U9; Glenfield United Tigers U9 2-8 Anstey Swifts Storm U9; Coalville Town Ravens U10 8-0 Glenfield United Tigers U10 (Cup Game); Glenfield United U11 9v9 2-3 Desford Youth U11 9v9; Borough Alliance 2010 U12 9v9 1-5 Glenfield United U12 9v9; Glenfield United U18s 2-2 Whitwick JFC U18a

Wolves v Leicester City - Match Preview

Leicester City travel to Molineux, hoping to make it two wins out of two infront of the Sky cameras when they face Wolves on Sunday afternoon.

Prior to the international break, City beat league leaders Blackpool 1-0 live on Sky thanks to a Ben Marshall penalty. They face another big test this weekend as they travel to the recently relegated West Midlands club.

Nigel Pearson could name the same side that beat Blackpool, with Jamie Vardy and David Nugent likely to stay up front.

Richie Wellens is available after recovering from injury, as is Ritchie de Laet who was set to start against Blackpool before pulling up in the warm up. Paul Gallagher however won't feature after being sent on loan to League One side Sheffield United.

Wolves, currently 19th after four games, have been handed a treble fitness boost with the news that Kevin Foley, Razak Boukari and Bjorn Sigurdarson are all available.

Goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey has stepped up his training from a torn cruciate knee ligament which has kept him out for six months but the game against Leicester is too early for his return. Therefore ex Fox Carl Ikeme is set to start in goal, while Richard Stearman, who made 116 appearances for Leicester, is pushing for a start after coming off the bench in the defeat against Cardiff.

Match Odds:

Wolves (8/5) Draw (12/5) Leicester (8/5)

Wolves to win 2-1 (17/2) Leicester to win 2-0 (11/1)

Sylvain Ebanks-Blake to score first (6/1) Andy King to score in 90 mins (9/2)

Glenfield United Review - 09/09/2012

Eight Glenfield United teams were in action over what is likely to be the warmest weekend of the season.

Glenfield United 2005 Under 14s got off to the perfect start last weekend with a 3-0 win at Earl Shilton Juniors and were looking to continue their 100% record as they hosted Loughborough Dynamo JFC U14s at Gynsill Lane.

They couldn't have wished for a better start to the game. From the first corner of the game, striker Luke Savage headed home before lobbing the keeper from 25 yards to get his and the teams second inside just four minutes.

Dynamo were allowed to get back into the game and grabbed a goal back after 12 minutes in spectacular fashion. The Glenfield defence didn't fully clear as the ball fell to Loughborough's number 10 who scored a superb bicycle kick from ten yards.

United kept pushing looking to restore their two goal lead but it was Loughborough who brought the scores level five minutes before half time. A left wing cross from Dynamo's number seven was met by their number nine who tapped into an empty net.

Loughborough's comeback appeared complete fifteen minutes into the second half. The visitors' number seven, a threat all game, shot from the edge of the area into the bottom right hand corner.

However, Glenfield reacted in perfect fashion, equalising three minutes later. A freekick wasn't dealt with by the Dynamo defence which allowed Jordan Stain to strike home from the edge of the area.

Both sides were pushing for the winner and it was Loughborough who got it. A cross from the right was met in the area by the number seven who scored his second of the game, eight minutes from time.

United continued trying for another equaliser to get at least the point they deserved but it didn't come, losing the game 4-3. The Under 14's 2005 lie third in the Leicester and District Sunday Juniors League Alan Worth Photographic Under 14D table.
Glenfield United Under 18s were looking to get their first points of the season on the board as they hosted top of the table Thurlaston Magpies.

United looked threatening from the start and hit the bar twice in the opening 20 minutes. Firstly, Dan Squires hit the bar from inside the box before Jack Foley rattled the horizontal from 30 yards.

The hosts eventually took the lead three minutes before half time. Right winger Jacob Parkes won the ball in his own half and rang the length of the pitch before crossing to striker Will Mayne to slot home.

Two superb saves from Glenfield 'keeper Mitchell Sewell kept the home side ahead, but he had no chance with Thurlaston's equaliser. A 25 yard strike from their number ten flew into the bottom right hand corner twenty minutes from full time.

Glenfield pushed for the winner but had to settle for a point. After two games they're in eighth place in the MDH Teamwear Leicestershire Youth League Under 18 Premier table with one point.

Elsewhere, Glenfield United 2010 U14s recorded an emphatic 7-1 win at Lutterworth Athletic Juniors and are second in the Leicester and District Sunday Juniors League Under 14G table.

Glenfield United results: Glenfield United Tigers U8 L-W Studs U8; Shepshed Dynamo U9 2-0 Glenfield United Tigers U9; Glenfield United U11 9v9 5-6 Sileby Juniors U11 9v9; Lutterworth Town U12 9v9 8-4 Glenfield United Under 12 9v9; Anstey Swifts FC U14s 5-2 Glenfield United U14s; Glenfield United 2005 U14s 3-4 Loughborough Dynamo JFC U14s; Lutterworth Athletic Juniors 1-7 Glenfield United 2010 U14s; Glenfield United U18s 1-1 Thurlaston Magpies.

Oadby Owls Under 18's 2-0 Glenfield United Under 18's

Glenfield United Under 18's were unable to get their season off to a winning start after losing 2-0 at Oadby Owls on Sunday.

Two second half goals from the hosts proved enough to win the game in which United will feel hard done by not to take something from it.

The visitors had two chances in the first two minutes of the game to take an early lead. Firstly, left winger Jake Seaton had a shot from the edge of the area which went over the bar before Dan Squires was denied by the Oadby 'keeper after being put through one-on-one.

The Owls took a while to get into the game, and aside from several long range shots, didn't look like making a breakthrough.

United won the first corner of the game and was met by centre half Kyle McLauchlin, but he headed over when unmarked.

After 25 minutes, Seaton played in striker Will Mayne whose shot was fumbled behind by the 'keeper. From the resulting corner, McLauchlin had another chance but this time his shot was saved. Ten minutes later, United had another chance to open the scoring. Once again, Seaton combined with Mayne, but the striker couldn't get to the ball in time to get the shot away.

Oadby's best chance of the first half came with three minutes left. The hosts' number eight ran down the left wing, but his cross along the six yard box wasn't met by a black and white stripped shirt and Glenfield cleared the ball.

After a goalless first half, Oadby took the lead five minutes into the second half. A long range freekick was whipped in by the number eight which hit the bar but Oadby's number 11 reacted quickest to the rebound to give them the lead.

United reacted well and had several chances to equalise. Another corner was head by McLauclin but he headed over before Mayne was put through. His shot was parried by the 'keeper and the rebound fell to midfielder Jack Foley, but his long range shot was deflected over.

Foley almost equalised again in spectacular fashion as his 30 yard freekick was tipped wide. United sustained the pressure with corners and long throws but were unable to find that crucial breakthrough.

They were made to pay when Oadby put the game beyond doubt 20 minutes from time. A long ball wasn't dealt with by Glenfield's defence which allowed Oadby's number 11 to chip the ball over the on rushing 'keeper Mitch Sewell.

Despite some more pressure, United couldn't find a way back into the game. They will be hoping to get their season up and running when they host Leicester Bharat in a cup game on Tuesday evening.

Glenfield United results: Queniborough U10 3-2 Glenfield United Tigers U10, Syston Town Pheonix U11 9v9 5-1 Glenfield United U11 9v9, Glenfield United U14s 0-0 Allexton & New Parks U14s, Earl Shilton Juniors 0-3 Glenfield United 2005 U14s, Glenfield United 2010 U14s 3-3 Lutterworth Athletic Juniors, Oadby Owls U18s 2-0 Glenfield United U18s

Leicester City v Blackpool - Match Preview

League leaders Blackpool visit the King Power Stadium on Saturday in front of the Sky Sports cameras, with Leicester looking to make amends after what has been an embarrasing week.

City were dumped out of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday, losing 4-2 to League Two side Burton Albion in the second round. That defeat was the third in a row for Leicester in all competitions and are desperate to return to winning ways.

They couldn't have picked a harder opponent in Blackpool. The Tangerines have bounced back from the playoff final heartache suffered last season in resounding fashion. They are currently top of the Championship and are the only team in the division to have a 100% record. A 2-0 win at Millwall was followed up by a 2-1 win against Leeds before last weekend they thumped Ipswich 6-0.

Leicester made eight changes for the game against Burton, and manager Nigel Pearson is expected to make a similar amount of changes as they return to league action. Wes Morgan, Danny Drinkwater, Lloyd Dyer and Jamie Vardy are all likely to start after all being rested on Tuesday.

Sean St Ledger and Zak Whitbread both completed 90 minutes in their returns from injury and could also start, while Marko Futacs also featured. Richie Wellens is the only injury absentee.

Blackpool have had a week off after being knocked out in the first round of the Capital One Cup, so manager Ian Holloway is likely to name the same side that beat Ipswich last weekend.

Nouha Dicko and Matt Phillips could come in if Holloway does opt to make changes, while winger Thomas Ince is likely to start after scoring four goals in three league games. Ian Evatt and Barry Ferguson are also options after returning from injury.

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson: "We're playing a side currently at the top that have started the season very well and our level of performance needs to be what it was prior to the midweek game.

"If we can get that type of performance on a regular basis we will win games. That's the benchmark performance we're looking for and we also have to turn those performances into results.

"Ian's teams have played the same style for a long time. Their main strengths are the way they attack, we have to deal with that and make sure we exploit their weaknesses."

Match odds: Leicester (11/10) Draw (5/2) Blackpool (23/10)

Leicester to win 2-0 (10/1) Blackpool to win 2-1 (9/1)

Jermaine Beckford to score first (11/2) Thomas Ince to score anytime (7/4)
