Portsmouth v Leicester preview

Firstly, apologies for not updating my blog as regularly as I said I would but I have been busy preparing to go back to uni so haven't really found the time.

Now, before each game that Leicester play this season I am going to stick my neck on the line and predict the score (and try not to be biased). I write this article at 7:15pm on Friday night, 30 minutes before they kick off away to Portsmouth live on Sky, so I may rush.

Preview:

This game is between two teams who have struggled in the opening games of the new Championship season. Portsmouth are bottom of the table and without a win in the league, while Leicester are just two places above them. A win for either side is crucial. These two teams played three days ago in the Carling Cup, with the Foxes winning 2-1 thanks to goals from Michael Morrison and Lloyd Dyer, while Liam Lawrence scored Portsmouth's consolation. Leicester made 8 changes for that game and are expected to make more ahead of Friday's league clash to utilise their big squad. Meanwhile, Portsmouth can only dream of such luxury as they could only name 5 names on their substitutes bench on Tuesday night.

Prediction:

Leicester have been playing good football of late and are unlucky not to have gained more points in games. They have had more shots on target in the Championship than any other club but the problem seems to be putting the ball in the onion basket. Portsmouth, although struggling, have good players such as Liam Lawrence, Dave Kitson and Michael Brown, all players who were playing regularly in the Premiership last season. However, their small squad is a problem and for them to play 2 games in three days may take its toll on them. Therefore, I think Leicester will get their first away league win of the season.

Portsmouth 1-3 Leicester
